neither of us is happy
but neither of us wants to leave
so we keep breaking one another
and calling it love.

INTERTEXTUALITY
While I was reading this poem, I could notice some kind of similarity with a book I read last year. The book I´m talking about is "Tudo é Rio" from Carla Madeira, and this poem reminds me of it because of the relationship of two people presented in the book: Venâncio and Dalva.
They've been married since a long time, and they loved one another for a long time as well, but their relationship started to break into pieces after Vanâncio did something terrible. But the interesting thing is: they didn't divorced to each other, why? Because somewhere deep, deep, deep inside, there was some kind of love between those two. But is it love though? They dind't talk to each other or look one another in the eye. Even hurt inside, they decided to live in the same house, breathing the same air, sharing the same rooms. One of them could just leave, but like the poem says "neither of us wants to leave", so they decided to break each other and call it love.
"Com a dor, o silêncio. Denso, ácido. Estagnado. Nada. Ele suplicou sincero, desamparado, e ela nenhum olhar, nenhum perdão possível."
(Tudo é Rio. p.26)
Based in the poem and the connection I made between "Tudo é Rio" and "Milk and Honey", I created something related to this theme about "love".
What I created was a letter. This letter is written by a guy which is living this same complicated situation in his relationship, so he decided to break up with his girlfriend writing her a letter. Hope you guys like it.
the goodbye letter
Dear C,
I was not prepared for you. We were not prepared for each other. That's why we don't work together. I know I promised to love no matter what, but I can't stand it any longer. You've notice it, you don't treat me the same way you used to, I guess you are felling the same as well. It hurts to say, but we can't be together anymore. We're not good for each other, we're not healthy for each other. We're not in love. We WERE just sexed up. I used you, you used me. That thing we have, can be anything else but love. We were just two bodies sharing the same bed and some day I realized: I don't belong to you and neither you belong to me. Don't worry, I've already packed my stuffs and left. The right part of the closet is already empty without my clothes. I bet you're felling relieved right now, that's what I'm felling too. It was a nice meeting you, dear, I hope you can find your someone, because I'll try to find mine.
Goodbye.
