Poemas escolhidos:
you are in the habit
of co-depending
on people to
make up for what
you think you lack
who tricked you
into believing
another person
was meant to complete you
when the most they can do is complement
loneliness is a sign you are in desperate need of yourself
Intertexto:
Rupi Kaur’s raw and emotional poetry reminded me of a few of Mitski’s lyrics. There are quite a few similarities between their works and their often chosen themes, such as feminine rage and sorrow, eroticism and intense but flawed relationships, even if they can differ on how they choose to approach these themes. With that in mind, I chose the song “Nobody”.
You can also access the song here!
It’s not only about loneliness, but also the need to fill this loneliness with relationships, with other people. It’s about the impulse to search elsewhere what you cannot find within yourself. But while the speaker in Mitski's song remains trapped inside their own loneliness, waiting for someone to save them, Kaur's poems reveal a certain level of self-awareness. They are aware of this impulse, that it is taught by the world and its coldness, instead of an innate necessity, and seem to be coming to terms with it. In the chosen poems from "Milk and Honey", the speaker proposes that dealing with loneliness doesn't depend on other people, but instead, that the answer lies within each person.
And it was based on these thoughts that I (tried to) write the poem below:
Produção artística:
you wonder
why no one wishes
to stay
with you
cry
or smile
whether you talk
or shut
your mouth
Enough
it is never
Good or
Right
body
wants to
stay
no
body
will give
you love
still
you realize
that it’s no wonder
nobody loves
you
don’t even want
it to stay
not even
you
wants to stay
for a minute, stay
and just
be
-it was you all along.
