Intertext between Taylor Swift's song Daylight and the poem Milk & Honey

We chose the poem:

love will come

and when love comes

love will hold you

love will call your name

and you will melt

sometimes though

love will hurt you

but love will never mean

to love will play no games

cause love knows life

has been hard enough already

Rupi Kaur will talk in her poem about what love would be and how it can arise in unexpected ways, from the initial phase that everything is magical where sometimes we feel safe and finally loved, causing a sense of comfort and belonging to arise through this feeling, as if we had never found another equal or similar. Furthermore, the poem also highlights the process that can be difficult and painful. However, sincere love has no games or manipulations, as it is understandable enough to be sensitive to the other, that is, to respect who the other is and their limits.

In this we think of Taylor Swift's albums: Red and Lover ( Taylor's Version), which are about the end of a brief toxic relationship and a relationship that lasted for over 6 years that was healthy. There are two songs that describe exactly these processes that the poem highlights

Daylight: is a song that talks about what it is to feel true love.Taylor Swift says that love has many facets. It can be described as a burning red flame, black and white, but true love is golden like the light of the day ( Daylight). Besides making an intertext with Red, another of Swift's songs, which symbolizes a fleeting love that feels like driving a new Maserati in a dead end street.

Red: is a song that talks about a love that is toxic and hurts the one that is being broken up with. She describes that the love from her former relationship was like driving a Maserati down a dead end street. In other words, a toxic relationship that goes so fast that it ends badly for one of the people.

The connection between Rupi's poem and Taylor Swift's Daylight is simple in that the person you are in a healthy relationship with will give themselves completely without any mind games, judgment, or manipulation. A person can be truthful and comfortable with another and show their dark side. Their partner will not judge them but embrace them as a whole. And this is why true love is golden like daylight.

Artistic Production:

Love can be hard

as many things in life

But we still waiting for it

The genuine, the patient

The real one

The one who will care

Who will share Who will stay

Love can be cruel

But love will never mean

We can cross many lines that are unforgiven

But love knows that life has been hard enough

Love can be black and white, burning red

To love will play no games

To love someone truly

is to never look at anything else now that I see you

And when I look at you

I only see Daylight.

And true love is golden like daylight.
